FROM STATUTORY AUDIT TO STRATEGIC FORESIGHTS

Client: Local Construction Material Wholesaler & Retailer in Thailand

Industry: Construction

Annual Revenue: THB 1,000 million

Engagement: Statutory Audit (Executive Clarity Package)

Background

The client is a long-standing, family-owned construction material distributor with both retail storefronts and credit-based wholesale operations across three provinces in Thailand. Though profitable and growing, the business engaged SFSG for a statutory audit to fulfill bank loan requirements and ensure transparency for family shareholders.

Instead of a routine audit, we applied the SFSG Framework Scan, Filter, Signal, Gauge to extract business insights embedded within audited financial statements, without compromising our independence as CPAs.

Our Process: SFSG Framework in Action

SCAN

During audit testing, we scanned sales and receivables trends over three fiscal years. While total revenue had grown steadily at ~9% CAGR, trade receivables had surged by 30% in the most recent year.

FILTER

We segmented the receivables by customer group and geography. It became clear that most overdue debts (>90 days) came from a cluster of small-to-mid-sized contractors operating in a single high-growth district many of whom had been granted extended credit terms without formal approval.

SIGNAL

This trend revealed a strategic risk: excessive credit exposure in one area, concentrated in a customer group vulnerable to project delays and cash flow gaps. The company's margin gains from higher sales were being quietly eroded by liquidity drag and financing costs.

GAUGE

We presented this trend visually in a Strategic Risk Snapshot attached to the executive summary of our audit report. We flagged the concentration risk as High, based on customer aging, volume, and absence of credit control. No recommendations were made only clear, verified insights for the board to consider.

"I've seen audit reports every year but this was the first time it gave me a new way of thinking about risk in our sales."

- Founder & Managing Director -

Outcome

Within 30 days of receiving the report:

  • The owner established a credit review committee with external advisor input.
  • Retail operations implemented POS flags for repeat credit-risk customers.
  • The company adjusted its credit insurance policy to cover high-exposure zones.

Why this case matters

  • This is Audit-as-a-Strategy in its purest form:

Insight, not advice

  • Clarity, not complexity
  • And strategic value, all within the boundary of auditor independence

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Audit-as-a-Strategy?

Audit-as-a-Strategy is our unique approach to financial auditing. We go beyond compliance by identifying strategic signals hidden in your audited financial statements without providing advice or violating professional independence.

How is your audit service different from traditional audit firms?

In addition to a fully compliant statutory audit, we deliver executive-friendly insights such as trend visualizations, risk snapshots, and strategic financial dashboards designed to help business leaders make better decisions.

Can you provide advisory or help restructure our financials?

No. As an independent audit firm, we do not provide advisory, accounting, or tax structuring services. However, we offer post-audit insights and C-suite training that help your team interpret audited results more strategically.

Is your firm approved by the SEC for IPO audits?

We are not currently registered as an SEC-accredited audit firm. However, our IPO Readiness Intelligence service helps companies prepare internally for listing by identifying financial gaps and enhancing executive readiness.

Do you use separate teams for audit and insight services?

Yes. We strictly separate the audit team (CPA-led) from the Strategy Lab team, which handles visualization and dashboard work after the audit is completed ensuring full independence and compliance with IESBA standards.

Who are your services designed for?

Our services are tailored for:

Business owners seeking clarity beyond compliance

CFOs and finance teams aiming to align numbers with strategy

Boards and audit committees requiring high-level reporting

Companies preparing for growth, fundraising, or IPO

Can we customize the service package?

Yes. While our packages are pre-structured, we offer optional modules such as multi-entity dashboards, segment performance deep dives, and board training all aligned with ethical standards

Will you attend board meetings or present to shareholders?

Yes if invited. We can present our Strategic Snapshot and Dashboard findings to your management or board, strictly in an informational format without offering advice.

Are your reports acceptable for banks, investors, or regulators?

Our audit reports follow TFRS or TFRS for NPAEs and are signed by licensed CPAs. Strategic dashboards and visuals are for internal use, helping you tell your business story more clearly to external stakeholders.

How much do your services cost?

Our pricing starts from THB 1.0 million per engagement and varies based on package level, business complexity, and reporting needs.
